Laying the Foundations: Why the Lay Roots Session Exists

Many women reach midlife with a solid understanding of what supports their health - how to eat well, move regularly, manage stress, and prioritise sleep. Yet despite this knowledge, putting those behaviours into practice can feel unexpectedly difficult.

This gap between knowing and doing is a common experience in midlife. It is rarely about motivation or willpower. More often, it reflects changing physical needs, increased responsibilities, mental load, and health advice that no longer feels relevant or realistic.

From a Lifestyle Medicine perspective, sustainable change begins with understanding context. Women’s wellbeing in midlife is shaped by far more than individual habits - it includes work, family, energy levels, stress, health history, and readiness for change.

The Lay Roots Session was created to support midlife women’s health by offering space for clarity before action. Rather than jumping straight to goals or plans, the focus is on understanding the whole picture and identifying what feels realistic and supportive at this stage of life.

In the short video below, I explain what the Lay Roots Session involves and who it is designed for.
